Best of 2011: Best Episode; Comedy

30 Dec

Hope you all had a great holiday. I meant to be back up earlier this week, but after a boozy holiday weekend, I came down with a sickness in which I bordered the line between this world and another. But today I am back with a special series, The Best of 2011! We will be going through different television categories and picking out the best that was in the year 2011.

First off we have the Best Comedic Episode of the year. Plenty of great episodes this year, but there could be only one winner. But first, lets look at the runner ups:

A Good ‘South Park’ Video Game?

9 Dec

So basically a couple of companies are coming together to make an RPG style South Park game for the XBOX, PS3, and PC. Now, for all those gamers out there, you are probably aware that every single South Park game to date has been horrible. Much like The Simpsons, South Park video games haven’t been able to capture the charm of the show while also being remarkably unplayable at the same time.

So what makes this one any different?

Well, one big reason is this:

Parker and Stone are writing the script, performing the dialogue, and overseeing the development of the game, making this the first South Park game they’ve had an active role in making.

As far as I can tell, everything Parker and Stone touch turns to gold. Even their early movies are awesome, although some debate that point. Anyways, other, unconfirmed details include:

  • The player’s character will be silent and “fully customizable”.
  • The player “has a smartphone that acts as the primary game menu and has a facebook-like app show the number of friends you have and your current standing with the various kid factions.”
  • “Eric Cartman will greet your character and help you decide your class, which are wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue, and a fifth unconventional class made up by Cartman.” I’m going to take a wild guess that the fifth class Cartman would make up is “Jew”.
  • “Obsidian is using the Dungeon Siege III engine.”
  • “Many elements of the combat system are like Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi games.”
  • “There is a Final Fantasy Materia like system in the game to augment weapons with various abilities like fire, poison, and electricity.”
  • “Parker and Stone gave Obsidian 15 years of assets used during the show and a detailed list of approved textures and colors.”
  • “Critical hits, cash rewards, experience, and consumables are in the game.”
  • “Sodas are health potions and Tweak’s coffee is a haste item.”
  • There will probably be no unskippable cutscenes because Parker hates them (as well he should).

Release is set for some time in late 2012. I have high hopes for this, so hope I don’t get burned.

Wednesday Wrap Up

17 Nov

South Park: This show really had everything. Turns out Cartman is the poorest kid in school outside of Kenny. Kenny gets sent to a foster home of crazy agnostics who spray down the kids with Dr Pepper (because what flavor is it? Its impossible to know). Mysterion shows up to defend Kenny’s little sister. Penn State jokes, poor jokes and a giant reptilian bird killing Kenny, like the good ol days. “We are all just one Pabst Blue Ribbon away from becoming white trash.” Grade: A-

By The Numbers:

-X-Factor scored big with a 3.8 over its 2 hours on air to give Fox the win for the night.

-ABC was down on all its shows, possibly from taking last week off. Modern Family hadn’t had a new episode in 2 weeks. These shows seem like the kind where you don’t really look forward to them, but just end up watching them. Like, oh, its Wednesday, guess I will put on ABC because that is what’s on tonight.

What I’m Watching Tonight

16 Nov

South Park: The fifteenth season finale is tonight, and of course I am sad to see the season come to a close. It’s been a good year for Stan and the boys. Stan is older, more bitter, and possibly a closet alcoholic and musicals are leading to more blow jobs than ever. Tonight, Kenny gets taken to a foster home. FUN! Comedy Central

Modern Family: Sofia Veraga! Is that how you spell her name? Its not like I have all the knowledge at my fingertips. 9pm ABC

Happy Endings: Watch this!

American Horror Story: I missed last weeks episode, so I don’t know how the whole, this dead girl and demon baby are terrorizing us thing went. But, I assume everyone is still alive, which is a bad thing. FX

Three More Years! South Park Renewed

16 Nov

Big news South Park fans. While some feared after this seasons “everything is shit” episode that South Park would soon be drawing to a close, Comedy Central announced today that it has renewed the animated giant for 3 more seasons. This will bring it into 2016 and bring the total run to 20 seasons. Twenty seasons is pretty rarified air on television, and considering this is a show that relies heavily on poop jokes about celebrities, its pretty amazing.

Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of South Park, as they have since the series’ premiere in 1997. “The collective genius of Matt and Trey knows no bounds,” Comedy Central’s president Michele Ganeless said. “Week after week and season after season they continue to surprise and delight South Park fans, and that includes all of us here at Comedy Central
